Gresford – The Miners’ Hymn

A recent BBC Radio 4 programme, “Soul Music”, featured the Miners’ Hymn, Gresford. This hymn was written by Robert Saint, a miner himself, to commemorate the mining disaster in 1934 at the Gresford Colliery in North Wales. It has been played at mining events ever since. Back in 1984 the BBC’s That’s Life programme came to Ticehurst in Sussex to shoot a clip of some local blokes performing a “ballet” whilst cutting the lawn. David Jacobs hosted the clip.
