He helped raise money so the youth band, as it then was, could go and buy new instruments. 		<description><![CDATA[<p>A recent BBC Radio 4 programme, &#8220;Soul Music&#8221;, featured the Miners&#8217; Hymn, Gresford. This hymn was written by Robert Saint, a miner himself, to commemorate the mining disaster in 1934 at the Gresford Colliery in North Wales. It has been played at mining events ever since. <p>Back in 1984 the BBC&#8217;s That&#8217;s Life programme came to Ticehurst in Sussex to shoot a clip of some local blokes performing a &#8220;ballet&#8221; whilst cutting the lawn.
